Iron Nick Flint
Reputably born in the slums of London, he was apprenticed at an early age to a cobbler. At the age of 10, he stabbed and grievously injured a customer over the price of a pair of boots. Fleeing the city, he fell in with a crew of privateers, soon turning to outright piracy. During battle against HMS Swallow he was grazed in the head by a shot from a 3 pounder, hence his nickname. It must be mentioned, this injury left him with an uncontrollable rage during battle, once biting off an opponents sword hand. Condemned in absentia for piracy, murder, robbery, assault and theft.
Misfire / Smee / Gus
Augustus “Misfire” Diamond-1661
Supposedly Born in DeVonshire, given birth during a pub brawl instigate by his mother. Growing up in poverty without benefit of a shift of clothes or knowledge of bathing, this foul-odored street urchin could find employment only as a dung collector.
After an altercation with a member of parliament resulting in a 50 pound fine, he accepted a magistrate’s invitation to join the Royal Navy. The career choice was short lived, however …owing to his aversion to clean water and repeated refusal to wear anything other than filthy rags. This resulted in the only known case of a marooning by the Royal Navy. Mr. Diamond was rescued by the crew of the “Intimidator”. A well know pirate vessel. At this time he was observed screaming and threatening sharks with an empty pistol, standing upon a sand bar.
Being settled in a berth next to the bilge, he was assigned to a gun crew, quickly showing his distaste for weapons cleaning, resulting in an unusual amount of misfires, perhaps explained by his habit of loading cannons with bilge waste, to fire into the faces of the Royal Navy. Condemned in absentia for the crimes of piracy, theft, assault and spreading disease, hereby sentenced to hanging, after a proper cleaning.
Bloody Bill
William “Bloody Bill” Hawkins (circa 1650?)
Little is known of his early years except an enlistment in the Royal Navy in his early teens to escape murder charges in the killing of a London (possibly fellow) thief. He rose the ranks to be a non-com quartermaster aboard a sixty gun sloop serving in the Caribbean. This posting proved to be short lived when he caught two crewmen stealing from the ships stores. Both men were found dead with Mr. Hawkins covered in their blood (Hence the name) in what he described as self defence. To his horror one of the men was recognized to be a jr. officer and nephew of a Royal Commodore. Knowing his fate would be the Gibbet Hawkins jumped ship (presumably with assistance), tossing his lot in with a crew of lowest sort.
As of this writing, this rapscallion is known to have killed at least twenty one men and is always heavily armed. If encountered all loyal citizens of the crown are urged to summon the local authorities and escape as quickly as possible, this rouge has sworn not to be taken alive by his Majesties forces and has repeatedly shown little or no regard for human life.
Therefore it is in the judgment of this court that the accused one WM. BLOODY BILL HAWKINS herein be condemned for PYRACY en absentia at the towne of St. Jago de la Vega in the island of JAMAICA this Wednesday the Sixteenth day of November in the year of our Lord 1689. Whereabouts of this and other afore mentioned rouges and scallywags shall be forwarded by any goode citizen with haste to his Hon. Magistrate as the scaffolding has been erected and executioner paid and retained.
Henry Avery
Aye! Avery is a brutal bastard, that drives the crew like the Devil himself was chasing ‘em…. He and his love Anne make a fearsome pair.
He’s an expert with small arms…
Drake
He’d taken me wooden arm off quick & whipped me with it!!! Drake is an accomplished swordsman…he knows how to use all types & he carries guns as a back up, I promise that if you cross him, you won’t see the next days sunrise!
Yargh!
Bloody Nick
Bloody Nick, one of the enfamous Brothers Grimm, is a force to be reckoned with when he’s with his scurvy mates.
Ruthless Rachael
“Ruthless Rachael” Flint-1684
Daughter of “Captain Rosey O’Brian” and “Iron Nick Flint”, this young miscreant is for the most part employed (as they say) aboard ship as a Powder Monkey or message runner. In port often Ruthless amuses herself with petty theft or pocket-picking, often letting her self be chased into an alley where other members of her most Vile crew wait to assault the unfortunate victim.
Although young, this underage criminal possesses the wit and attitude of older scofflaws, and should not be taken lightly. A considerable reward is offered. Condemned in absentia, in light of her young age, to 15 years in the tower of London.
Steel-Eye/ Chaos
He is known to some as Malcolm Steel-Eye, but most know him as Chaos for the destruction left in his wake! He is quick to inflict damage with any weapon he can pick up (or any unattended rum for that matter) As to the incident that left him with the steel eye that he is named for, you’ll have to ask him as the story changes with every telling.
Jo
Raised by an Indo-Persian gypsy family, she is adept at the ways of swindling, merchantry, manipulating fire, dancing, & reading the heavens; a true gypsy family of sorts.
Most years were spent dealing with the “East India Trading Company” as they traveled the gypsy village and on into the HinduKush. She swapped spices, teas, and exotic animals, sometimes even entertained some of the European gents by reading their stars or hands for a small sum of money. However, in the summer of 1684, the trade post was ransacked and pillaged by a group of south militants, trying to overtake the “East India Trading Company’”s goods, and the village was destroyed in the fight.
So, she donned her best male voice, stole some men’s clothing, and snuck into the Trading Company’s ship as a stowaway. (Women are strictly forbidden on board, as an omen of BAD LUCK) Eventually she was discovered, and assumed to be a young lad. The sailors had her swabbing the cannons, deck, helping with the food, etc..they took pity on the scrawny boy, and taught him how to use a pistol and swords in case there was ever a fight.
The ship wasn’t bound for Europe, instead it was headed for the Carribean. She snuck off to make her own way in a “New World”. It was in Port Royal Jamaica, where she met the Buccaneers ….. the rest is yet to be known.
Sandy Bligh Aka: Calamity Jane
Sandy appeared from fog with only her dog, Squire. Claims she came from London, but smells of the air of Lithuania. She’s been known to lure handsome men into dark allies and onto ships, where she robbed them blind before they could blink. There are many more stories of the looting, pillaging + other unspeakable acts done by Sandy Bligh, But if you ask her about them her story will always change. One thing is for sure, her and her dog can always ruin your day. As the poem says.
“Men beware of Sandy Bligh, She went mad + took her man’s eyes, Far away she did flee, To pillage and plunder upon the sea.”
